Fall 2012 Trend Report: Wine Lips + Pewter Eyes

Fall 2012 Trend Report: Wine Lips + Pewter Eyes

posted on: 9.07.2012

As New York Fashion Week is getting well underway, I figure now is a really good time to focus on the beauty trends for this season, not next. Fall is rapidly approaching, and I'm still a bit shocked that we already are finding ourselves in the month of September. Wasn't January just yesterday?? My, how time flies.

Probably my favorite trend for this season is the combination of deep, wine-hued lips paired with pewter-toned eyes. Of course, pairing both of these trends together in one look could totally spell disaster, but it is all about balance! And of course, pairing both trends together is not a look a lot of people can get away with. Even though above it looks like I pulled it together, in real life I looked supremely goth, and not in a good way. Of course, I have to go a bit extra-dramatic when taking pictures so the makeup can translate better.

If you're going to go with the vampy lip, a nice wash of a shimmery pewter color all over your lid into the crease will pair well, along with a nice lengthening and volumizing mascara. On the reverse side, if you're going with a pewter smokey eye, pair it with either a light pink lip or a slight berry tint on the lips. Pictured above, I am wearing Covergirl Lip Perfection Lipstick in Entwined, paired with a combination of Benefit Creaseless Shadow in Skinny Jeans + Chanel Illusion D'Ombre in Illusoire. I used a combination of a gray-toned purple taupe with the pewter cream shadow to bring out the purple tones in the lipstick.

I compiled a list of high-end and drugstore products that are perfect for any budget if you want to achieve this look. Now you have no excuse to not try out this trend!

makeup forever rouge artist intense 49. nars scarlet empress. covergirl entwined. rimmel kate moss 004.

dior. bare minerals. nyx trio. maybelline.

  2. I've been wanting to try a wine stained lip for Fall! I would have never guessed the color on your lips is "Entwined" by looking at the tube. Does it just wear a lot darker?

    1. Yea, the online picture is super light compared to how it is in real life. It definitely wears a lot darker. It isn't ridiculously pigmented on the first swipe, so you have to apply a few layers to get the color payoff I got.

  4. I love the wine/berry lip trend for coming months, I think it's a really flattering shade and it makes me think of Christmas for some reason. Maybe all the mulled wine and holly berries etc.
I love the look of the Nars lipstick you've featured, it looks right up my street.
