Review: Cult Nails Base + Top Coat

Review: Cult Nails Base + Top Coat

Before I met Maria from Cult Nails and other nail bloggers, I didn't quite understand the purpose of a base and top coat. For me, it was two additional steps that prolonged the nail painting process. I thought of painting my nails as a chore, and would walk around with chipped nail polish. Once I became aware of nail blogs, that was the moment I realized that as a beauty blogger (and even as a makeup artist), it was unacceptable to walk around with cruddy looking nails. That was also the moment I decided using a base and top coat would probably be beneficial.

I always used the Seche Vite base and top coat, because that's what I saw a lot of bloggers using. As great as they were, the fumes from the bottles were just gross and gave me a headache. I also hate the goopiness I would get from the top coat after using it halfway through. Not only that, but the warning on the bottles that say "WARNING! This product contains a chemical known to the State of California to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm" is a bit unnerving. That was the moment I knew I needed a better base + top coat.

Then I was introduced to the Cult Nails brand, and I fell in love! It wasn't until The Makeup Show Orlando when I finally bought their top and base coat. I'm never going back to Seche Vite! Individually, the base and top coat retail for $8 each. You can buy them together for $15, which is a great deal. The base coat is called Get It On (Perfecting Base Coat), and the top coat is called Wicked Fast (Speed Dry Top Coat).

If you only choose to get one, then get the top coat. It dries incredibly fast while locking in your nail color and having a nice, glossy finish. And it isn't goopy! Using both the base and top coat together, my manicure lasts well over a week. Using only the top coat, my manicure lasts anywhere from 5 days to a whole week without chipping. If that's not impressive, I don't know what is.

You can purchase the base and top coat on the Cult Nails website for $8 each, or $15 together. I definitely recommend these products!
