3 Ways to Dominate the Red Lip Game

3 Ways to Dominate the Red Lip Game

It is officially wintertime, which means that 'tis the season for red lipstick. I'm a huge fan of girls who can pull off a red lip regardless of the occasion- I think it is fierce and powerful, and I will immediately want to be your best friend. Taking the pictures for this post made me realize how little I actually wear red lips, and I guess you could say I decided that one of my resolutions for the new year will be wearing more red lipstick. I've compiled three different looks that you can pair with red lipstick if you're lacking inspiration. Read on!
This first look is so easy, a caveman could do it! Cheesiness aside, I am not kidding you when I say how simple this is. All I did here was add a yellow gold eyeshadow (I used Urban Decay's Half Baked eyeshadow) onto the lid, and blend slightly into the crease. I added mascara, and that's it! I didn't add any blush, because I wanted to keep this simple. This is great for those of you who are afraid of wearing too much makeup with a red lip.
This is the perfect look if you're feeling bold and want to vamp things up a bit. I built on the previous look (so the previous look would make for a great "day" look, and this would make for a great "night" look!), and layered a deep, shimmery brown over the gold eyeshadow (I used Urban Decay Darkhorse eyeshadow). I applied this to the lid, and then took a medium brown eyeshadow (Urban Decay Buck) and used this in the crease to blend everything out. I applied the dark brown eyeshadow under the eye aas well, and then took a black eyeshadow and smudged it on the outer half of my upper lashline. I also added a little bit of a rose gold blush onto the cheeks.
So, the eye makeup here is exactly the same as Look #2. This look is a fun variation that you can do with any eye makeup you want. All I did here was add a yellow-gold eyeshadow onto the center of my lips. It adds an unexpected twist to the red lip, and is visually stunning. This would pair well with a winged liner, or even a dark smoky eye like above. If you wear this to a party, it would be smart to bring the gold eyeshadow with you for touchups.

By the way, the red lipstick I am wearing in these looks is MAC's Russian Red lipstick. It is a classic, and while I'm not a huge fan of MAC, I am a huge fan of this lipstick. It is a classic that will never go out of style. What are some of your favorite ways to wear a red lip?

  1. Look 3 is my favorite. It's so elegant and unusual because most people on the regular don't do this technique on their lips x
