SW Basics of Brooklyn products. Their whole philosophy is less is more. All of their products contain less than five ingredients. All of their ingredients are locally sourced and organic. No worrying about extra preservatives or unnecessary ingredients with this brand! So, I threw the SW Basics Bestsellers Kit in my shopping cart, and placed my order. Here are my thoughts on the SW Basics Toner, Cream, Cleanser, and Makeup Remover.
First up... the Toner. All it includes is water, raw apple cider vinegar, witch hazel, and the essential oils of clary sage and sandalwood. According to the SW website, their toner will even skin tone and neutralizes pH. Sounds great to me! I love the fact that this toner has witch hazel, because it is a great treatment for blemishes. I found this cool website that show 15 cool ways you can use witch hazel, so you can read that for more info on why it is kiiiinda the coolest. Anyway, I really like using this toner at night. I do feel like it evens out my skin tone. I can't vouch for it neutralizing the pH in my skin because, quite frankly, I don't know what that even means. But it feels great on my skin and hasn't broken me out, so that's always a great sign!
If you have dry skin and deal with dry patches, then you are going to LOVE the Cream. It contains fair trade shea butter from a women's cooperative in Ghana (fancy!), organic coconut oil, and organic olive oil. That's it. This moisturizer is non-comedogenic, which means that it won't clog your pores, either. Score! If you have oily skin, you may find this moisturizer to be a little bit too moisturizing. For all of you dealing with the harsh winter weather, then you may want to check this cream out. I love using this on my dry spots and on my body, too. A little bit goes a long way!
The SW Basics Cleanser is straight up the most simple cleanser I have ever encountered in my life. Like, I didn't even know what to do with it when I got it. It looks like cloudy water, which, if I'm being honest, confused me. Well, fret not! Using only organic rosewater, organic vegetable glycerin, and organic tea trea oil, this cleanser is SUPER gentle on the skin. If your skin is really delicate and sensitive, then this is the perfect cleanser for you. For me, I like using this to freshen my skin up in the mornings. I apply some on a cotton round, work it into my skin, then wash off with warm water. Boom. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am. Face is clean, and I'm ready to conquer to world. I love how the cleanser has tea tree oil and rosewater in it, both of which are great for any skin ailments, like acne. And because I'm really into linking you guys to lists, here are 25 rad uses for tea tree oil and 20 benefits of rose water.
Last, but certainly not least, is the Makeup Remover. Made with only organic sweet almond oil, organic olive oil, and organic jojoba oil, this makeup remover effectively removes makeup and lightly moisturizes your skin. I'm not a huge fan of the greasiness of the oil, but this makeup remover does do its job. I wouldn't necessarily say this is great for removing stubborn waterproof makeup, but it definitely will remove your everyday makeup. And again, if you have dry skin, you'll probably love this.
Overall, I think buying the Bestsellers Kit was a great idea on my part, and gave me a really great introduction to the brand. I love how the mini bottles are glass, although that could be troublesome if you're traveling. These four mini bottles also come in a TSA-friendly clear makeup bag, so it is a travel-friendly kit (with the exception of the whole glass bottle thing). And I am a huge sucker for great packaging, so it should go without saying that I am in love with the branding of SW Basics. If you have sensitive skin, or are interested in simplifying your skincare regime, I highly recommend this kit. The kit retails for $45, or you could buy each individual mini bottle for $12 (the mini makeup remover is only $10). How do you guys feel about this new approach to skincare? Yay or nay?
