It's Time You Consider All-Natural Sunscreens

Whether you like it or not, summer is basically already thrusting its sweaty and oily presence in our faces, and we need to be prepared. Ahh, yes... The one thing 39% of Americans refuse to do (or are just plain ol' ignorant of) is protecting their skin from the sun. It is vital to protect your skin from the sun! So that means it is time to grab the nearest sunscreen and slather it on, right? Well, sorta.

Do you know what is lurking deep inside your favorite drugstore sunscreen? Some of the most popular active ingredients in most sunscreens are actually hazardous to your health. This article from the Environmental Working Group is really interesting and I highly recommend it, but I'll summarize it if you're pressed for time or just don't care enough to check it out: The ingredients to be wary of include oxybenzone, octinoxate, octocrylene, homosalate, and retinyl palmitate.

So what's a gal to do when the overwhelming majority of sunscreens found in drugstores contain most, if not all, of these ingredients? Lucky for you, EWG has compiled a list of the best "safe" beach and sports sunscreens. My personal favorite sunscreen to use is the Suntegrity Sunscreen For Body with SPF 30. A little bit goes a long way, and I have yet to get a sunburn when using it. There's also an unscented version (which I use), a tinted moisturizer, and one formulated for babies. Living in Florida, though, and I'm almost out of it! It's not greasy either, and ranks well with the EWG. Yay!

But now I want to know: knowing that there are potentially hazardous ingredients lurking in most sunscreens, will you make the switch to all-natural sunscreens, or are you gonna say "to hell with it" and keep on using what you use?
