I don't know if it's because I've become increasingly more lazy in regards to my makeup routine, or if I really just have a thing for bright lipstick, but I have been using up my bright lipsticks like it's nobody's business. Wearing bright lipstick is, in my mind, a super simple and effective way to pull a look together, but I still see a lot of people with lipstick sloppily applied to the general lip area, and decided to compile a list of tips and tricks for those of you who want to wear bright lipstick.
  1. If you want your lipstick to last longer than usual, use lip liner. And please, no chola lip liner. I'm talking about using a neutral lip liner or a lip liner that's the same shade as your lipstick!
  2. For precise application, use a lip brush! Nothing cuter than a haphazardly applied lipstick. Kidding.
  3. Keep in mind that blue-based bright lipsticks (such as MAC Russian Red) will make you teeth look whiter. Other ones, like Barbie pink shades, will make your teeth look more yellow. Plan accordingly.
  4. To really make your bright lips pop, use concealer to trace around your lip line to make sure you have the sharpest edges possible.
  5. When trying on clothes at a clothing store while wearing bright lipstick, be verrrrry careful not to get your lipstick on the clothes you are trying on. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the sales people ~generally~ don't like finding red lipstick smudges on white clothing.
  6. If you're going to wear lipstick, shave yo' mustache because the bright lipstick is only going to draw attention to the fuzz on your upper lip. Unless that's the look you're going for. Then you do you, mami!
  7. Wearing bright lipstick to Disney is going to be a lot of maintenance. Trust me on this one, and come prepared.
  8. Dark & intense eye makeup + bold & bright lipstick + daytime errands= lots of stares and the occasional crying baby. Balance things out: opt for dark eye makeup OR bright lipstick. I generally don't like doing both at the same time because, well, it's too much.
  9. Lip balm will be your best friend. Chapped lips and bright lipstick are NOT a good look.
  10. And most importantly, have fun with your lipstick. I like to think of bright lipstick as my superpower, and that I am unstoppable when wearing it. Girl power!
Any other tips and tricks for wearing bright lipstick that you've come across?
