You're probably sick and tired of hearing bloggers and makeup artists alike reminding you of the importance of the filled-in brow, but hear me out! If you're not already on the groomed brow express, then it can definitely be overwhelming when trying to figure out where to start. I've created a tutorial on how to maintain your brows, but I haven't really talked about the different brow products available on the market. Well, look no further! Consider this your handy dandy guide to the world of brow products. First up: powders!
Brow powder is exactly what the name insinuates- it is powder that you use to fill in your brows. While you can buy specific brow powders, you can also use any matte eyeshadow you already have. However, some brow powders come with brow wax, which you would apply after the powder to keep your brow hairs in place. I'm not a huge fan of brow wax, but a lot of people swear by it. Powders, in my opinion, create a more filled-in type of look, but can be brushed through the brow hair for a more natural effect. I know a ton of people who swear by the Smashbox Brow Tech, but my personal favorite is the MAC eyeshadow in Brun.
Okay, there are several names that this formulation could also be called, such as pomade and gel, but they basically all accomplish the same thing. A lot of the time, this formulation is waterproof which is prettttty much a godsend if you a) live where humidity thrives, b) live in the Pacific Northwest, or c) are a mermaid. My all-time favorite brow cream is the Make Up For Ever Aqua Brow, because it just does not budge. Another popular option is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow.
Brow gels are pretty popular if you have naturally full brows that don't need much filling in. Similar to brow wax, the purpose of a brow gel is to keep brow hairs in place. There are both clear brow gels and tinted brow gels. If you want very light color, then tinted brow gels are for you. For male grooming or just setting your brows in place, clear gel is perfect for you. And pro tip: use clear mascara as clear brow gel... It's pretty much the same thing! My favorite is the Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara.
In terms of simplicity and user-friendliness, brow pencils are the way to go. Especially the ones of the self-sharpening variety. These are great because they can achieve a really filled-in type of look, or a really natural look. My all-time favorite brow pencil is the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz, but Maybelline makes a great affordable alternative as well!
This is a relatively new brow formulation to me, but I know of a lot of people who swear by this kind of brow product. Also, my number one makeup guru boo boo, Lisa Eldridge, swears by a brow pen by Suqqu. I don't have much input on this formulation since I've never actually tried it, but this brow pen by Stila is waterproof and has really great reviews.
Well, that just about covers brow formulations! Did I leave any out? What are your favorite brow products! Share your brow secrets with me in the comments!
